Hubert Védrine is no ideologue. He never has been and Continuer l’histoire confirms it.  As both an intellectual and a politician, he has staunchly stuck to realism. An outsider in the French Socialist party, which he may have joined in order to follow Former President François Mitterrand, whom he served under as special advisor, Védrine later became French Foreign Minister when left-wing Prime Minister Lionel Jospin cohabited with right-wing President Jacques Chirac.
