In the last few months there has been a vigorous debate among women activists concerning the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, which would void all state and local laws with special provisions on women. The Amendment passed the House, but was crippled in the Senate for the time being. If it gets past the Senate, it must still go through a referendum vote of the state legislatures.
