[SAN FRANCISCO EVENT | July 30] The Milk Tea Alliance
[SAN FRANCISCO EVENT | July 30] The Milk Tea Alliance
A conversation with Jeffrey Wasserstrom.

Why are activists in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Burma willing to court danger to help one another?
Historian and Dissent editorial board member Jeffrey Wasserstrom interviewed dozens of dissidents from the “Milk Tea Alliance”—a nod to their shared opposition to nationalistic Beijing loyalists and the fact that their cultures’ iconic drinks contain dairy, unlike mainland China’s traditional tea—for his new book, The Milk Tea Alliance: Inside Asia’s Struggle Against Autocracy and Beijing.
The political situations in Burma, Thailand, and Hong Kong are radically different. How do these activists, each facing their unique situations, find common ground and sustain one another?
Jeffrey Wasserstrom will speak with Kalidip Choudhury about his research and more on Wednesday, July 30, at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco.
