[EVENT] Spring Issue Launch: Our Technology and Theirs

New digital technologies, particularly social media, make money by offering “free” services to users that encourage us to spend our lives on their platforms, while other tech companies try to turn work that was previously paid into play for unpaid amateurs. At the same time, new publics that have been marginalized by the mainstream are coalescing online, seeking to use digital tools for their own ends.

On Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m., join Dissent magazine at 61 Local in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn for a discussion of the politics and labor of the new tech sector, featuring Kate Losse (author of The Boy Kings: A Journey into the Heart of the Social Network) and Sarah Leonard (contributing editor at Dissent and senior editor at the Nation). Kate and Sarah will be joined by contributors from the Spring 2014 issue of Dissent, “Our Technology and Theirs.”
