We Remember Ellen Willis

We mourn the death of Ellen Willis, radical feminist, critical writer, and Dissent board member, who died this morning (November 9) from lung cancer. We were fortunate to have published several of her essays over the last decade and a half, and always looked forward to her insights. Her passing is an enormous loss to her family and to the left, which needs the kind of clear thinking she brought to bear, whether in cultural criticism or political analysis. We post here her Dissent pieces that are available electronically. They are a reminder of what we will miss.

Giving Feminism Life, Fall 2002

Ellin Willis Responds, Winter 2003

Confronting the Contradictions, Summer 2003

Eli Zaretsky's Secrets of the Soul, Winter 2005

Ghosts, Fantasies, and Hope, Fall 2005

Readers who admire Ellen Willis's work in Dissent will also want to look at other tributes to her and links to her work, in particular the following article:

This blog has posted links to most of the other tributes that are available on the web.
